Diabetes Super Conference in Mississippi

Meg Frazier, Regional Manager of the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi, contacted me in response to my article on the alarming rate of diabetes in Mississippi. The Diabetes Foundation is sponsoring a Super Conference on “New Horizons in Diabetes Care: What the Future Holds,”at the Marriot Hotel Downtown in Jackson on Saturday, January 30.

As community outreach for those with diabetes or caring for a child or family member with the disease, the one day conference is an opportunity to hear experts in the field discuss the latest trends in care and management.

According to their website, http://www.msdiabetes.org, keynote speakers include: "Ann Albright, PhD, RD, Director of the Division of Diabetes Translation for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Warren Jones, MD, FAAFP, Executive Director of the Mississippi Institute for the Improvement of Geographic Minority Health. Other noted speakers include Herman Taylor, MD, MPH, Principal Investigator for the Jackson Heart Study, who will share the secrets of “getting to the heart of diabetes,” and Della Matheson, RN, CDE, Trial Coordinator for the University of Miami Clinical Center for Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet, who will provide a realistic discussion on the latest in diabetes research."

With over 340,000 Mississippians currently with the disease, this program is full of beneficial information.

You can register online or by phoning toll-free 1-877-DFM-CURE. Registration is $25 for one, $40 for two, $10 for children 12 and younger. The local Jackson phone is 601-957-7878.

Thanks Meg for keeping me posted.
